Governor
Democrat James Doyle was elected Wisconsin’s Governor, replacing Republican Gov. Scott McCallum.
During the campaign, Doyle said that he opposed Senate-adopted measures to cut financing to and increase regulation of Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) schools. At the same time, he said he did not favor an expansion of the MPCP.
Senate
The November 5 elections changed the makeup of the Senate from an 18-15 Democratic majority to an 18-15 Republican majority. Three Democrats who had voted to cut MPCP financing and increase program regulation were defeated. New leaders of the Republican majority are strong MPCP supporters.
Assembly
The November 5 elections increased the Republican majority from 56-43 to 58-41. Assembly Republican leaders are strong MPCP supporters.
