This year, over 60,000 Wisconsin students found hope through private school choice, and that is something worth celebrating. School choice provides a tuition-free avenue for low to middle income students to attend private/religious schools that align with their families’ values. But as we look toward 2026, the future of these programs faces real challenges.

The fight for educational freedom is entering into one of its most critical moments yet. In the more hostile political environment that many predict is just around the corner following next year’s elections, parental choice programs will be vulnerable to proposals that undercut autonomy, reduce current funding, cap enrollment, or eliminate the programs altogether.
