President of School Choice Wisconsin

Overview

The mission of School Choice Wisconsin (SCW), and its sister organization School Choice Wisconsin Action (SCWA), is to expand and protect educational choice for Wisconsin families.

The organizations achieve these goals by: developing and enacting robust parental choice policy; working with schools and parents to ensure effective implementation; educating key audiences about the impact of parental choice; and building strategic alliances with other advocates.

The effective president is visionary, innovative, and strategic; provides community and organizational leadership; develops and manages resources; and ensures operational accountability and fiscal integrity.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to accomplish goals set forth in the mission and the guiding principles adopted by SCW and SCWA boards;
  • Establish an ambitious legislative/policy agenda to expand parental freedom in education by advancing a long-term strategic vision and demonstrating the tactical skills to make incremental gains;
  • Develop a staff capable of executing the strategic vision as a highly professional, cohesive team;
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with both boards and staff to ensure open communication regarding performance in meeting strategic financial, and program goals;
  • Oversee aggressive growth in revenues by making a compelling case to current and prospective donors and expanding the SCW and SCWA donor base;
  • Build alliances with a wide range of other individuals and organizations that value parental freedom in education and continue the SCW tradition of working in concert with allies to achieve results;
  • Communicate effectively with staff, consultants, board members, donors, policy makers, and the general public;
  • Foster a culture that encourages collaboration, innovation, and recognizes positive contributions; and
  • Oversee the management of financial, operational, personnel, and legal matters.

 

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the SCW Board of Directors. Manages the SCW team and consultants.

 

Qualifications:

  • Deep commitment to parental freedom in education. Knowledge of education reform issues and challenges is preferred but not required;
  • Visionary and strategic thinking capabilities with a personal demeanor and executive presence consistent with a highly visible position;
  • Excellent coalition-building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external individuals and organizations;
  • Keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills that enable sound decision making, long-range planning, and policy formation;
  • Ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems;
  • Strong commitment to the professional development of staff, preferably with a successful track record of recruiting and managing a diverse team;
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills, and the experience and proclivity to be an outgoing spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser;
  • Knowledge of government affairs and experience in the public policy arena, preferably with engagement in successful execution of a major strategic initiative that required project management and coalition-building skills;
  • Fundraising capability, preferably with evidence of success in donor relations; and
  • Willingness to travel to meet donors, attend conferences, and work with allies.

 

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for president is commensurate with experience, between $130,000 – $170,000. SCW offers competitive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, a matching 403(b) retirement plan, and 10 paid holidays.

The organization is currently based in West Allis, WI, and will relocate to Brookfield, WI, in October 2025.
