State Report Cards Show Positive Results for Choice Schools

Latest DPI data shows substantial advantages for choice programs

MADISON, Wis. (November 19, 2024) – New report cards from the Department of Public Instruction show positive results for private schools in Wisconsin’s school choice programs in terms of both student growth and achievement when compared to public schools. School Choice Wisconsin released the following statement from its president, Nicholas Kelly: 

“Parents across Wisconsin know what educational opportunities are best for their kids. School choice empowers them to make those decisions. While report cards are just one piece of information a family might use, it’s clear that Wisconsin’s choice schools give them important options.

“Regardless of measurement changes implemented this year by the Department of Public Instruction, as in the past students in the choice program continue to grow and achieve at a higher level. These results occur despite choice schools being funded at 70% of public school levels.”

The following charts show substantial advantages for students in Milwaukee and Racine choice programs.  Based on available data for the statewide program, students from low-income families are on par with public school students from families at all income levels.

** Choice schools that are located in Caledonia, Mount Pleasant, Racine, and Sturtevant
*** All Choice schools not located in Caledonia, Milwaukee, Mount Pleasant, Racine, or Sturtevant
