Wisconsin Act 89: Policy and Training Requirements for Communication between Employees/Volunteers and Students
On March 6, 2026, Governor Evers signed 2025 Wisconsin Act 89 into law. This new law requires all Wisconsin schools, including private schools, to adopt a policy and provide annual trainings for governing school employee and volunteer communications with students. The policy must be in effect by September 1, 2026.
With implementation deadlines approaching, it is critical that school leaders understand what the law requires and how to ensure their policies are compliant.
To support private schools in meeting these obligations, School Choice Wisconsin (SCW), in partnership with WILL, hosted a live compliance webinar on Thursday, May 7. This webinar was designed for school administrators, compliance staff, and leadership teams responsible for policy development and oversight.
During this session, attendees received a clear breakdown of Act 89’s requirements, learned practical steps for policy adoption and implementation, and gained access to a model policy designed to support compliance. Click the button below to watch a recording of this webinar.
