We’ve Got Your Backpack

Most students aren’t excited about anything to do with school in the middle of July. But there were lots of smiling faces this weekend at the backpack drive School Choice Wisconsin and Hispanics for School Choice in downtown Milwaukee.

As director of outreach for Hispanics for School Choice, I often meet with students and parents in a variety of settings. This last weekend was no different. Hundreds of students and parents visited our booth at the Mercadera Market held at the Deer District. Even Bango, the Milwaukee Bucks’ mascot, got in the action and stopped by to hand out backpacks and school supplies and pose for pictures with fans.

This was the second backpack drive we’ve held this summer. In June, we had a great event in Green Bay at a church festival — you can see some coverage of that drive from Press Times here and from WBAY here. In the coming weeks, we also have events scheduled for Kenosha and Madison. All told, we are planning to hand out about 2,000 backpacks to students and families who need them ahead of the upcoming school year.

Please follow our Facebook pages to keep up to date on the backpack drive and everything that School Choice Wisconsin and Hispanics for School Choice are doing. If you’d like to donate to help us serve even more students, you can do so here.

Thanks for checking in!
