June 19, 2025

Wisconsin Act 12: Law Requirements & Compliant Reporting The Department of Public Instruction recently released guidance on how schools should complete their annual legal reporting requirement for state and local law violations that occur on school property. This requirement only applies to schools that have grades 9-12. SCWA and the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) teamed up for a webinar on June 19, 2025, to help schools understand the process and answer questions. Our goal is to make the requirement feel manageable and give you confidence moving forward. During the webinar, WILL attorneys walked through what the law requires…

Wisconsin Act 20: Implementation, Processes and Procedures Recently, SCWA has been fielding numerous questions regarding Wisconsin Act 20 and the implementation, processes and procedures that are required going forward. Educational Choice for Children Act of 2025 (ECCA) Webinar

June 6, 2025

SCWA ECCA Informational Webinar School Choice Wisconsin Action has been fielding many calls recently regarding the ECCA and how it would affect schools in Wisconsin. After nearly a year of supporting and learning about this bill, we want to keep our member schools as up-to-date as possible. The ECCA would provide donors to nonprofit groups that distribute K-12 scholarships with a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit in exchange for their contributions. In case you missed it, this bill passed the House on June 4, 2025 and will soon be decided on by the Senate. SCWA partnered with national experts to host…

A parent from Freedom, WI

March 28, 2025

Jay A. has been a public-school teacher for almost two decades, and he sends his three sons to St. Peter Lutheran in Appleton. This is no paradox—many Wisconsin families have ties to both public and private schools and find success in exercising their right to have educational options. When deciding where to send his own children, Jay didn’t have to search far to find St. Peter. The school is well known in the community for their early childhood care, and his family lives close to the campus. He says they took a leap of faith when enrolling the two oldest…

A school leader in Milwaukee, WI

March 14, 2025

The concept of a neighborhood school is often tied to public school systems. However, private schools also embody this approach. While walking the halls of Mount Calvary Lutheran School in Milwaukee, a sense of community is palpable. Principal Dr. Trenae Howard greets students by name, a nod to her dedication to establishing relationships with the children she has served since taking on the role of principal last school year. Dr. Howard’s vision for Mount Calvary is for it to be a trusted pillar of the surrounding community. Because of their involvement in the choice programs, families from all income levels…

A principal in Sheboygan, WI

March 7, 2025

Recent data from standardized test scores and state report cards have proven the effectiveness of Wisconsin choice schools compared to their public counterparts. Families deserve the right to select a school that will further their children’s academic growth, and financial status or zip codes should not deter this success. It is no coincidence that choice schools—those able to establish autonomy over curriculum and instruction—demonstrate high levels of academic achievement. One example of such is Trinity Lutheran School in Sheboygan. Principal Jenna Roeske describes the delivery and style of education at Trinity as traditional, but highly effective. While many schools are…

A parent in Algoma, WI

February 28, 2025

It seems obvious that parents would choose to send their children to a religious school because they want them to receive a faith-based education. However, many factors go into the decision to attend such a school. Take Lindsay Serrahn, a reading interventionist at St. Paul’s in Algoma, for example. In addition to working at St. Paul’s, she and her husband send their children there and are familiar with the school because her husband is an alumnus. Although Lindsay did not have a religious upbringing like her husband, she has no regrets about enrolling her children. Lindsay’s reasons for working at…
